Welcome to Live Well RDN, where gut and heart health meet whole-body healing. I’m Allison van Camp, a registered dietitian helping women get to the root of their symptoms with a personalized, non-diet approach. Whether you're dealing with bloating, fatigue, high cholesterol, or simply feeling off, you deserve to feel vibrant and empowered in your body.
At Live Well RDN, I believe true health is about more than numbers on a scale or quick-fix diets—it’s about restoring balance, supporting optimal gut health, building trust with your body, and nourishing yourself in a way that feels sustainable, empowering, and aligned with your life.
Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States and that it claims more lives than all forms of cancer combined? Annually, it's responsible for approximately one in five female deaths.
Research suggests a strong link between gut health and heart health, often referred to as the "gut-heart axis". The gut microbiome, a complex community of bacteria and other microorganisms in the digestive tract, can influence cardiovascular health through various mechanisms, including inflammation, cholesterol levels, and the production of metabolites that affect the heart.
Studies have found a strong association between consuming 30 or more different types of plant foods per week and a more diverse gut microbiome compared to those eating fewer varieties. A diverse microbiome is linked to better digestion, enhanced immune function, and a reduced risk of inflammatory conditions.
